Led by Raytheon Technologies Corp., American companies filed more patent applications in Europe last year, rebounding from the throes of the Covid-19 pandemic.
U.S. companies filed over 46,500 patent applications with the European Patent Office, up 5.2% from 2020, in a return to pre-pandemic filing trends, according to an EPO report. U.S. companies are a large driver of EPO filings, accounting for roughly a quarter of patent applications there.
