Torch.AI to provide AI ecosystem for US Navy’s Digital Warfare Office – Naval Technology

The US Navy has awarded an agreement to Torch.AI to provide artificial intelligence (AI) and data infrastructure software capabilities to Navy ’s Digital Warfare Office (DWO).

Under this five-year agreement, the company will acquire, transform and enrich the proprietary vessels, sensors and other complex maritime data sources from the US Navy ’s various platforms into commercially consistent data payloads that can be accessed from anywhere.

The next generation ecosystem will deliver AI and machine learning (ML) capabilities to the US warfighting naval forces.

The systems provided by Torch.AI will also support the delivery of data pipelines for the US Navy ‘s AI/ML personnel, who are responsible for performing the associated AI/ML algorithm and model development.

According to Torch.AI , the AI ecosystem will allow the US Navy ’s operational fleet to operate in a complex, siloed information technology (IT) environment.

It includes Cloud compute, storage, hardware and Cloud edge devices that are used for data lakes at secret, unclassified as well as top-secret levels.

Torch.AI Mission Systems vice-president and former Navy SEAL Brad Kolarov said: “We’ve made tremendous strides in advancing the navy’s maritime capabilities with data and AI.

“It’s exciting to see the impact we can have on the organisation and military personnel, and we’re thrilled to be able to support this mission.”

Established in 2016, the US Navy ’s DWO is responsible for leading the initiatives for enhanced utilisation of large amount of data produced daily, to advance its competitive advantage across all the mission areas.

Torch.AI founder and CEO Brian Weaver said: “The speed of data dictates the demands of today’s multi-domain battlefield.

“Machine speed and machine scale are critical advantages needed today.”
