Materials Aerospace Engineer at Essentium
3D printer manufacturer Essentium is seeking a new Materials Aerospace Engineer to join its office in Pflugerville, Texas. The role will involve responsibilities in all stages of the aerospace materials development process, including early-stage concepts and commercialization. Candidates will be expected to lead a team of engineers and technicians, and be familiar with CMH-17 testing protocols, ANOVA analysis, B-Basis analysis, AMS 7100 and 7101 certifications, and FAR 25.853 FST testing protocols.
The successful candidate will have over five years of aerospace industry experience, experience in 3D printing, and a B.S. in aerospace engineering or similar.
Marketing & Sales Assistant at Sintratec
Sintratec, a manufacturer of SLS 3D printers, is looking for a new Marketing & Sales Assistant. The role involves supporting the marketing and sales teams in day-to-day operations, carrying out market research, and supporting the delivery of various projects.
Applicants are required to have a degree in business, with some experience in marketing and sales. Written and oral skills in both English and German are a must, while Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop skills are a huge plus.
BCN3D establishes new logistics center in New Jersey
Barcelona-based 3D printer OEM BCN3D has announced the establishment of a new logistics center in New Jersey, USA, enabling the company to expand to North America with a local team. The firm has also appointed Kevin Billett as its new Channel Sales Manager. Billett will be responsible for leading the company’s growth in the US and Canada.
Xavier Martínez Faneca, CEO of BCN3D, said, “Our expansion to the US is an important milestone for BCN3D, as it indicates that the company is now fully capable of meeting the needs and demands of BCN3D partners and customers in the region. The new center in New Jersey will offer great business opportunities there from 2022 onwards, enhancing our relationship with customers.”
GKN Aerospace opens new tech center in Bristol
UK-based aerospace firm GKN Aerospace has opened its new Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Bristol. The £32M ($44M) facility will be used to develop the company’s next-generation aircraft systems, and already employs 300 people. Early projects at the GTC include GKN’s composite rear spar for the Airbus Wing of Tomorrow program and the first wing, empennage, and wiring system for Eviation’s Alice prototype.
John Pritchard, president of GKN’s civil aerospace business, says the GTC is key to the firm’s future and will enable the company to work in a more agile manner.
Velo3D establishes Technical Center in Germany
Metal 3D printer manufacturer Velo3D has expanded its European presence with the establishment of a new Technical Center in Augsburg, Germany. The 1,200 square foot facility will be used to house several of the company’s Sapphire 3D printers, allowing Velo3D to better showcase its additive manufacturing technology to prospective customers. The Technical Center will also include a lab area, offices, and conference rooms.
“Europe is a key market for Velo3D’s growth in the coming years and we’re thrilled to deliver our first end-to-end additive manufacturing solution and open our new technical center to accelerate this expansion,” said Benny Buller, Velo3D’s CEO and Founder. “With Velo3D’s end-to-end solutions, seeing is believing, and at our Augsburg facility, we’ll be able to demonstrate our impressive additive manufacturing technology in person.”
Desktop Metal triples manufacturing capacity for Production System P-50
Desktop Metal, a developer of binder jet 3D printing technology, has opened a new in-house manufacturing facility at its headquarters in Massachusetts. The factory will be used to triple the assembly space currently dedicated to producing the firm’s flagship Production System P-50 3D printer in a bid to meet the growing demand for the system. Desktop Metal aims to assemble the initial builds for shipment by the end of the year.
“After a significant development cycle, we are experiencing growing, pent-up demand for our Production System P-50 solution. As we continue to convert these opportunities, expanding our in-house final assembly capabilities has become a critical step to scaling deployment of our Single Pass Jetting technology,” said Ric Fulop, Founder and CEO of Desktop Metal. “This new facility in Massachusetts, in conjunction with our contract manufacturers and suppliers, supports our ability to meet growing demand for high-volume applications.”
VIT Chennai set to establish new AM Center of Excellence
VIT Chennai (Vellore Institute of Technology) in Tamil Nadu has signed an MoA with Sedaxis Advanced Materials to establish a new Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence on the university’s campus. Designed to help accelerate the adoption of 3D printing, the facility will be fitted with a wide variety of professional 3D printers that will be available for SMEs in the region to use.
Dr. Kanchana Bhaaskaran, Pro Vice-Chancellor at VIT Chennai, said, “Today, we are excited to welcome onboard SEDAXIS Advanced Materials, the industry partner in our journey of fruitful collaboration in the domain of additive manufacturing. Besides providing solutions to the social and industrial problems, we are also looking forward to witnessing many remarkable outcomes as part of this association.”
Orbex takes flight new 3D printed rocket engine production facility
Orbex, a UK-based aerospace firm, has opened a new production facility for the 3D printing of rocket engine components. The company has already installed a custom-made AMCM M4K 3D printer at the site, which it will use to 3D print its mono-body rocket engines and turbopumps in-house.
The large-format 3D printer is well suited to Orbex’s production needs as it sports a build volume of 450 x 450 x 1000mm, meaning it can be used to fabricate metal parts up to a meter in height. Orbex has stated plans to leverage the system to print entire main-stage rocket engine bodies in a single build, which will help reduce the overall mass of the rocket.
TPM debuts new 3D printing lab in North Carolina
Manufacturing firm TPM has announced the launch of its new 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing Lab in Charlotte, North Carolina. The lab is designed to serve as a centralized location for companies in the Southeast to see, first hand, how 3D printing technology can benefit their businesses. TPM will also use the site to provide additive manufacturing services for customers that don’t yet own their own 3D printers.
Chris Fay, President of TPM, says, “We are beyond thrilled to launch this new lab in our Charlotte, NC location. As our company looks to serve the Southeast region in a broader capacity, it was critical that we brought all our 3D technology into one place so that our customers and prospects could truly evaluate what is best for their businesses.”
Sandvik increases production capacity and revamps powder sales team
Sandvik Additive Manufacturing, a provider of powder materials for the 3D printing sector, has increased its material production capacity with the installation of two new atomization towers at its facility in Neath, UK. The move comes following the recent opening of a new plant in Sandviken, Sweden, which is being used to manufacture titanium and nickel-based alloys.
Annika Roos, Business Unit Manager of Sandvik’s metal powder business, said, “Sandvik offers extensive capabilities in terms of providing high-quality and consistent metal powders, to customers engaged in a range of additive manufacturing processes. By installing these new atomization towers – one of which is already fully operational and quality assured, while the other is under construction – we bring our total tower count to twelve.”
The firm also recently revamped its powder sales organization, appointing Dr. Martin McMahon as its new Head of Global Powder Sales. McMahon has a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Liverpool University, and has already held several senior roles at companies such as Renishaw and 3T Additive Manufacturing. Sandvik has also bolstered its EMEA metal powder sales team with the addition of two new sales representatives: Manuel Winkler and Dr. Olesia Khafizova.
Fraunhofer IPA and partners launch new HSS Material Network
Fraunhofer IPA, together with the University of Bayreuth and 3D printer OEM Voxeljet, has launched a new HSS Material Network to advance 3D printing polymer qualification for Voxeljet’s High Speed Sintering (HSS) process. The network’s aim is to share knowledge and collaboratively accelerate polymer development in additive manufacturing, specifically by providing customers with a flexible way to have new 3D printing polymers tested, qualified, and certified.
The partnership also gave rise to the Campus Additive Innovations (CA.I), an interdisciplinary think tank at the University of Bayreuth where scientists can work with and advise companies.
“Medium-sized companies in particular often lack the equipment, interdisciplinary skills, and resources to conduct their own materials research and technology optimization. To close this gap, we founded the Campus Additive Innovations,” explains Dr. Frank Döpper, University of Bayreuth. “The HSS Material Network offers customers and interested parties a flexible and low-risk outsourcing option for material development.“
America Makes hires Kimberley Gibson as Ecosystem Director
America Makes has hired Kimberley Gibson as its first Ecosystem Director. Her newly created role will involve leading America Makes in its efforts to continually engage with its membership community and develop strategic partnerships across the 3D printing sector.
Before joining America Makes, Kimberly Gibson served as the Chief Mischief Officer of IC3D, an Ohio-based on-demand manufacturing service provider, where she was responsible for leading Business Development and Marketing. Gibson also previously served as Communications Manager of LIFT (the national manufacturing institute for lightweighting of land, air, and sea transportation).
“We are thrilled to have someone of Kimberly’s background and experience join the America Makes team,” said America Makes Executive Director John Wilczynski. “Her unique blend of experience as an innovator in the additive industry, staff member at a DoD innovation institute, and in public-private partnerships, will bring tremendous value to the entire America Makes community and help us advance our mission to accelerate the adoption of additive manufacturing.”
Redefine Meat appoints senior executives Edwin Bark and Adrian Sagman
Ahead of its European product launch in November 2021, meat-free food 3D printing company Redefine Meat hired two new executives to lead the firm’s expansion plans. Edwin Bark, who was previously the Managing Director of Nestlé Europe, was appointed Senior Vice President and General Manager EMEA while Adrian Sagman, formerly at Unilever Europe, is Redefine Meat’s new Director of Global Sales and Business Development.
Bark brings with him 25 years of international experience, several of which were spent reviving Nestle’s European Plant-Based Food Division. Sagman, on the other hand, has spent a decade in senior business and marketing roles at Unilever Food Solutions Europe, as well as 13 additional years managing exports and sales in the food industry.

3YOURMIND appoints Bas de Jong as Chief Commercial Officer
Additive manufacturing software developer 3YOURMIND has appointed Bas de Jong as its Chief Commercial Officer. As the new CCO, he will lead the firm’s expansion in the U.S. and Europe. Jong previously spent six years at 3D printer manufacturer Ultimaker, where he helped grow the business development and application engineering team.

Claudia Napal Drayton joins 3D Systems’ Board of Directors
3D Systems, a leading 3D printer manufacturer based in the US, has appointed Claudia Napal Drayton to its Board of Directors.
Drayton currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer of life sciences firm Quantum-Si, but began her career in public accounting at Arthur Andersen. She also spent 15 years in various roles of increasing responsibility at medical device firm Medtronic, including Chief Financial Officer for both the Peripheral Vascular and the Integrated Health Solutions business units.
“We are delighted to welcome Claudia to our Board of Directors,” said Chip McClure, chairman of the board of 3D Systems. “Her outstanding career as a finance leader, in roles ranging from public accounting to sophisticated medical devices and, in recent years, biotech companies, will prove invaluable to both our Audit Committee and our Board in general.”
6K names Gary Hall Chief Financial Officer
6K, a developer of metal additive manufacturing powders, has appointed Gary Hall as its Chief Financial Officer. He brings with him 20 years of experience in leading finance and operational teams at high-growth technology firms. As 6K, Hall will oversee all financial planning and analysis, financial reporting, accounting and control, tax, and treasury. He will also be responsible for both the HR and IT strategies.

Jan-Peter Derrer joins Fehrmann Alloys as Head of Sales
Industrial material specialist Fehrmann Alloys has hired Jan-Peter Derrer as its new Head of Sales. Overseeing all business development operations, Derrer presented at the Formnext 2021 trade show, where he introduced six of the company’s latest alloys.
He brings to the table over 12 years of experience in the 3D printing sector, having started his career at PBF 3D printer manufacturer SLM Solutions. He also spent several years at Renishaw and recently served as the Business Development Manager of Farsoon Europe.
Team3D joins ATS Global
Team3D, an Italy-based product lifecycle management specialist, has joined technical services firm ATS Global to become a part of the ATS Global family of companies. Transitioning from being an independent company, Team3D stated that it made the move as part of a plan to gain a stock exchange listing, and will continue to sell and service Product Lifecycle Management software developed by Siemens.
Mauro Barra, Managing Director and owner of Team3D, stated, “This is a big step for us. This change opens a major opportunity for our teams to collaborate across the whole spectrum of Manufacturing IT/OT. ATS already has an operation in Italy, based in Genoa. Together we can now offer CAD, CAM, CAE, PLM, MES/MOM and Automation products and services to our joint customers.”
HP wins no-poach antitrust claim filed by ex-employee
HP, the tech giant behind the MultiJet Fusion 3D printing technology, has won a no-poach antitrust claim filed against it by a former employee.
The 55-year-old plaintiff, Bryant Fonseca, was let go by the firm as part of HP’s Workforce Reduction Plan (WFR) back in 2017. After applying for and failing to secure a new role at 3D Systems, one of HP’s 3D printing competitors, he alleged that HP had entered into an illegal no-poach agreement with 3D Systems. Fonseca also made claims of age discrimination against HP.
Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel dismissed the antitrust claims in August 2020, stating the “opaque allegations” were “either insufficient or independently explained by rational business decisions”.
Fonseca then asked the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to revive the claims, but the district court’s dismissal has now been upheld.
