Melina Delkic Joins Express as an Editor – The New York Times Company

During her Business embed Melina has spent many mornings running the desk’s live briefing, and has impressed editors there with her ability to handle anything they throw at her during a busy time of economic and financial upheaval —  with the Fed’s historic interest rate increases, head-spinning stock market volatility, soaring inflation and Elon Musk’s effort to buy Twitter.

Melina started at The Times on the print hub, editing the Times Insider and other material on Pages A2 and A3. For the past three years she worked on the newsletters team, covering and curating news about Chinese tech, protests in Hong Kong and more.

“Melina has helped transform the Asia and Europe Morning Briefings into some of our most sophisticated and widely read newsletters,” said Adam Pasick, editorial director of Newsletters at The Times. “In the process she has mastered covering a broad range of topics, making her a perfect fit for Express.”

In addition to her newsletter work, Melina sharpened her reporting during the pandemic as a general assignment and breaking news reporter on Sundays for National, Metro and Live. You may have seen her byline on stories including oil spills, the nation’s pandemic response and, appropriately for an Express staffer, inclement weather. (We worked with her on a few of those).

“I grew up in St. Louis, part of a tight-knit Bosnian refugee community, which I got to write about for the National desk in 2019,” Melina says. “Fun fact: I started taking guitar classes during the pandemic, a childhood dream, and unfortunately for those who live with or near me, I’m now in the Fleetwood Mac stage.”

Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow, or in this case June 21, when I hope you will all give Melina a warm welcome to the team.
