McCormick to bring US Old Bay seasoning brand to the UK – The Grocer

McCormick & Company is bringing popular US seasoning brand Old Bay to the UK.

The seasoning, which hails from the Chesapeake Bay area of Maryland, comprises a blend of 14 herbs and spices.

It is billed as an accompaniment to burgers, chicken, seafood, a topping for fries and corn on the cob, as well as popcorn, wings and pasta.

McCormick VP marketing EMEA Chris Nelson said the business had been ”inundated with requests from food fans over the past few years to bring this iconic seasoning to British kitchens”.

It was “versatile, and its flavour is impossible to replicate”, he added. “Its launch will significantly contribute to continued category growth and boost retailer sales at a time when home cooking is booming.”

Old Bay will roll into Morrisons, Ocado and Amazon from June, ahead of a wider rollout over the course of the year (rsp: £2.99/75g).

Its launch will be backed by digital, sampling and in-store activity designed to drive trial and awareness.

News of the launch comes as McCormick recently announced plans to move its ‘flavour solutions’ – its condiments brands – from Littleborough to a new facility in Peterborough, approximately 100 miles away, putting hundreds of jobs at risk.

However, the new site is expected to create new 300 jobs, and is claimed to offer net zero carbon production.
