Elisa and Google Cloud to collaborate on projects, performance and digital journey – Mobile Europe

Google Cloud and Finnish telco Elisa are to collaborate on a series of projects, with the primary objective being the latter’s cloud transformation. Elisa will use Google Cloud’s infrastructure, storage, data analytics and hybrid cloud management services to expedite its service and product launches, explore edge computing and give Elisa’s customers better experiences.

Converting IDS to cloud structure

The two organisations will conspire to convert Elisa’s International Digital Services (IDS) to a cloud structure quicker. Elisa Polystar, part of Elisa Group, is exploring new cloud-based network assurance and automation functions through Google Distributed Cloud, machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

Elisa’s cloud is power, precision and privacy

Elisa says it has built Google Cloud into its hybrid offering of raw computing capacity, cloud management and expert services. The partnership started last year when Elisa appointed Google Cloud to modernise 31 of its customers’ private clouds so they could jointly launch services. The first interconnection between Google Cloud and Elisa created a hybrid cloud for a healthcare provider in the Nordics.

Anthos creates a telco cloud for Elisa

Elisa is piloting Google Cloud’s Anthos as a way to host its cloud-native network functions (CNF) on its own premises. Its new cloud-native 5G core is a test of how much extra value Google Cloud can provide for operators, if they can get to grips with its application programming interfaces (APIs), tools and containers and use them to full effect for maintaining and operating its cloud.

Customer experiences

Elisa claims Google’s telco cloud tools have already created better experiences for customers.  “We’re at a pivotal moment in our cloud journey and we wanted a cloud partner that would support our next steps in our digital development,” said Veli-Matti Mattila, Elisa, CEO.
